Harold Graham publicly demonstrates the first untethered personal flight with a Bell Aerospace rocket belt, traveling a distance of about 100 feet. Actor Sean Connery makes an escape worthy of James Bond via rocket belt in the movie Thunderball. The opening ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles begin with rocketeer Bill Suitor flying into the stadium and arriving in front of President Reagan.
